05 — Twilight

The shot that stops the scroll.

Warm windows against a blue hour sky. On most listings this is the single highest-performing frame in the whole set — and it is the one buyers remember.

Overview

One frame does most of the work.

There is a window of about twenty minutes after sunset when the sky still holds colour and the windows have already turned warm. Shot then, a house stops looking like a listing and starts looking like somewhere you want to be. We light the interior room by room, expose for the sky, and blend the frames by hand so nothing blows out and nothing goes muddy. On most listings this is the image that ends up as the cover.

Good To Know

Questions agents actually ask

When exactly do you shoot?

We arrive before sunset to set up and shoot through the twenty to thirty minutes after it, which is when the sky and the windows are balanced. The exact time moves through the year and we confirm it the day before.

Does the house need to be ready?

Yes, more than for a daytime shoot. Every interior light on, blinds open, cars off the driveway and landscape lighting switched on. We send a twilight-specific checklist when you book.

Can you do twilight on the same day as the main shoot?

Yes, and that is the usual way. We photograph the interiors during the day and come back for the twilight window in the evening.

What if it is cloudy?

A little cloud is often better than none because it catches the colour. Heavy overcast or rain kills the effect, so we reschedule the twilight portion for the next suitable evening.

Is it really worth the extra?

On most listings it is the single most clicked image in the set. If you only add one thing to a standard package, this is the one we would pick.
